Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: I grew up in church, and thats actually how I even started playing music. I saw a need and I said “I can play” and I picked up a pair of drum sticks and started playing! My roots in the church 100% shaped my artistry and sound. You will hear soulful/blues riffs in my guitar playing and singing.
Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Brandon Watson”?
A: My management team and I have a lot of music in the hopper! We have an intense release schedule throughout 2025 and beyond I am just excited to share all this great music with you you! The message I have for anyone who is about to discover Brandon Watson is “Buckle up! We are about to take this to the moon and back!”
Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?
A: Honestly, I have always been inspired by John Mayer and that still stands today! But I have added a few new people that have really inspired me lately: Post Malone, Jelly roll, Chris Stapleton, and Lainey Wilson!
Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “I’m Coming For You.”?
A: How I got into music was pretty simple. I grew up in the church; my parents were pastors, so I was attracted to music very early as a kid. I actually started playing drums when I was 2 years old and thought, “This is it! This is all I want to do with my life.” then, as time went on, I picked up a guitar when I was 13 years old and immediately become a student of the craft and of music. I was drawn to blues and listened to all the greats in blues music, from B.B. King, Robert Cray, Eric Clapton, and SRV. Fast forward 10 years, now as a professional touring artist, music has been such a blessing and vehicle that has allowed me to see most of the United States, Canada, the UK, and Europe, and tour the country of Ireland. I have met so many incredible people and hear their stories. It’s really been so amazing. Now, I am currently based in Nashville, TN, with my wife, who is a podcaster, and I get to write/produce music for TV and Film.
Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?
A: EPIC!
Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “I’m Coming For You”?
A: Actually, this song fell into place pretty easy! My buddy Corey Harbet who actually lives back in San Antonio, TX where I’m from, sent me this track and the lyrics just fell into place when I started digging into the production of the track! I grew up in the 90s when Air Jordans were the shoes to rock because Michael Jordan was the GOAT of the NBA, hoping you were going to get the last copy of the movie everyone was talking about at Blockbuster, and don’t get me started about coveting your friend’s Super Nintendo! I really wanted to kick the new year off with this tune that blends emotion, a fresh wave of rock, while introducing cinematic and hard-hitting elements. Capturing the nostalgic vibe from the time I grew up in, while adding a modern pop sound, was important to me. I loved writing this song, and it is honestly kind of like a warning to the GOATs out there – you better be careful and keep looking over your shoulder because ‘I’m coming for your spot!’ There’s a moment in the song where I say ‘I’m on a hunt for legends and I’m coming for you.’ 2024 was a BIG year for me as a writer and music artist. I signed with a great management company, All World Music, here in Nashville, and this song is the first single of many new releases coming out this year with my team. I am so hyped about it!”
Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?
A: I think anything worth pursuing that’s bigger than “you” isn’t going to be smooth or an easy road. But it will be the most rewarding. Growth and investment always have growing pains and setbacks. It doesn’t mean it’s a total failure! It just means learn from the mistakes and setbacks and create again. Don’t be afraid to pivot and don’t be afraid to keep reinventing yourself.
Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)
A: John Mayer, Teddy Swims, Ed Sheeran, Benson Boone, Dua Lipa!
Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?
A: I have been a touring music artist coming up to 10 years now! The last 3 years I recently have got into writing and producing music for Tv and films and it has been very refreshing for me to be honest. It gave me a fresh creativity to release music and also helped me grow a lot even as an artist. I mentioned earlier don’t be afraid to pivot or reinvent yourself, the year 2020 really helped me dig in and polish my writing and producing chops and allowed me to get into this side of the music industry. My advice: don’t let anyone out work you! If you have create enough, you’ll have enough, because you are already enough! Just get to work!
Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?
A: I’d sit down with my younger self and say “Don’t be scared, don’t fear the unknown! Work hard because you will end up doing exactly what you dreamed you would be doing!”
