Q: Welcome back, Josh Alexander! It’s fantastic to have you with us again. Since our last conversation, a lot has happened in your musical journey. To kick things off, could you share some highlights or pivotal moments that have shaped your artistic path since our last interview?
A) Hello, thank you for having me again! Since we last spoke, I’ve had the opportunity to perform live shows and connect with audiences in ways that continually fuel my creativity. Being on stage is such an amazing experience, and it reminds me why I love making music. Beyond that, I’ve been spending a lot of time in the studio, working on my next EP. It’s been a busy but wonderful time, and I’m super excited for what’s coming next.
Q: Can you describe the musical style of Josh Alexander in three words?
A) Cinematic, Authentic, and Dramatic.
Q: How do you stay connected with your fans, and what role do they play in shaping your musical journey?
A) I stay connected with my fans primarily through social media, especially Instagram. I love sharing snippets of my creative process, updates on my music, and moments from my life. I create music for people who need it the most, and being able to interact with my community is so rewarding. Hearing how my music resonates with fans and how it makes them feel, fuels me to keep creating.
Q: You have just released your new single, ‘Stormy Haze’. Is there a story behind it?
A) The story behind Stormy Haze is deeply personal. I went through a breakup during the winter, which was a challenging time for me. But as difficult as it was, I realized that I wasn’t alone in facing heartache during a season that’s often associated with joy and togetherness. Writing the song became a healing process for me, a way to give a voice to those who might feel out of place during the holidays. I wanted to create something that felt heartfelt and relatable, a sad Christmas bop for anyone needing it this season.
Q: What is your favorite verse from the song and why?
A) Sliding down the icy road,So cold before the great unknown,And I don’t know if I’ll find home,Christmas has me shedding tears again. For me, this verse captures the bittersweetness of moving on after a breakup. It reflects the uncertainty of leaving behind something that was once such a big part of your life while looking ahead to the unknown. Even though it’s painful, there’s also a sense of hope and possibility. When I read these lyrics now, I wish I could tell the version of myself who wrote them that everything eventually will be okay.
Q: Can you walk us through the creative process of producing the song, “Stormy Haze”
A) I wrote and composed the track with Alexis Leroy-Pleshoyano, who also produced it. The process started with a jam session, just me, a guitar, and freestyling melodies. The song came together so naturally, almost as if it wrote itself. It was such a raw and fresh story at the time that everything just clicked. Alexis has this incredible ability to tell a story through music alone. Even without the lyrics, the instrumentation is packed with emotion. That’s what I love about his style, he doesn’t just produce, he composes a narrative. While the song has a sad tone, Alexis brought a subtle sense of hope to the arrangement. It’s like the music itself is saying, “Even in heartbreak, there’s light ahead.”
Q: What has been the most memorable concert or performance for Josh Alexander so far?
A) Performing for 1,500 people at the Grand Théâtre of Québec City in my hometown was unforgettable. Receiving a standing ovation from the people in my hometown was incredibly heartwarming. It felt like everything had come full circle, and that moment will always hold a special place in my heart.
Q: Reflecting on your body of work, each song holding its unique significance, could you share a particular track that stands out to you personally? What makes that specific tune special, and why does it hold a place of pride in your musical journey?
A) Without You I Can’t Dance is still my favorite track I’ve released so far. It has a belting note at the end that’s every vocalist’s dream to sing. Growing up, I was inspired by vocal powerhouses like Celine Dion and Christina Aguilera, so creating a song with a moment like that, paired with such a meaningful message, makes me incredibly proud. I can’t wait to perform it live again.
Q: Exploring the diverse creative processes within the music industry is always fascinating. Could you provide insight into Josh Alexander’s unique approach to crafting music? From the initial spark of an idea to the finished song, how do you navigate the creative journey and bring its musical concepts to life?
A) My process always starts with a melody. I freestyle ideas until something sticks, and then I build the musical arrangement around it. Once the melody and arrangement are in place, the story of the song naturally takes shape. I let the music guide the lyrics and the emotion behind the track. It’s an organic process that lets the song evolve in a way that feels true to the moment.
Q: As we wrap up our conversation, looking ahead, what aspirations or dreams do you have for Josh Alexander, and what message would you like to share with your fans as they continue to accompany you on this musical journey?
A) My biggest dream is to tour the world and share my music with people everywhere. Artists like Adele and Coldplay inspire me & their ability to connect with massive audiences while staying true to their artistry is something I aspire to achieve. Performing for crowds that sing along with me to every word of a two-hour set would be a dream come true.
To my fans, I just want to say: Never stop believing in yourselves. You’re capable of achieving anything you set your mind to. There’s a place in this world for everyone to live their dreams, and I hope my journey inspires you to chase yours.
