Interview With Ustrell

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: I’m originally from Barcelona and have been living in Switzerland for over 10 years. Part of my family has worked in the audiovisual industry, which sparked my early interest in music. When I was 15, I won a DJ booth (two turntables and a mixer) in a local radio contest and I started practicing at home. At the same time, I was fascinated by the idea of creating music like the records I was DJing so I began making my first productions with the PlayStation game “Music.” I used to record my tracks on cassette tapes and listen to them in my parents’ car. I can still vividly remember that incredible feeling! Later on, I studied sound engineering, and over time, my production techniques evolved, allowing me to start releasing my music through various record labels.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover your music?

A: I plan on focusing on social media and connecting with playlists that match with my sound. For anyone discovering my music, I want to say: my sound is a blend of genres, aiming to connect with both purists and casual listeners. I hope my tracks bring something fresh and exciting and my goal is to make music that speaks to people, no matter their musical tastes.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: I don’t tend to follow any one artist in particular. When I create music, I just sit down and start working randomly. As I go, ideas for melodies and tracks pop up and I just build on them in my own way.

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the EP, “Unearth.”?

A: “Unearth” is about rediscovering the parts of ourselves that have been buried beneath life’s noise. The EP represents a journey, breaking free, embracing change, and finding clarity in chaos.

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: Radioground?? 😀 A sound as catchy as radio hits but with an underground twist 😉

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Unearth”?

A: One of the biggest challenges was transitioning back to the vocals after the main drop. The two sections felt very different and it was tricky to make them flow seamlessly. I solved this by creating a short break that transitions into a reverse effect on the vocals, which bridges the two parts while keeping the energy intact. It was a rewarding process to see it come together!

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A: The message of my music is simple: mixing styles and breaking boundaries. I aim to create tracks that blend techno, house, and electronic sounds in a way that appeals to everyone, whether you’re a hardcore techno fan or someone who enjoys radio hits.

As an artist, my goal is to make music that connects with different types of listeners and brings them together, no matter their background or preferences.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: I don’t think I have just one dream artist. It’s more of a blend of inspirations from different artists and genres. Each one brings their unique creativity and energy and the idea of collaborating with someone who can bring something unexpected and fresh is exciting to me. It’s not about one specific person but about finding that connection where two artistic visions align and create something truly special.

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: Stay authentic to your sound but remain open to learning and evolving. Consistency and resilience are key because success rarely happens overnight.

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: Trust the process. Every setback is a step toward growth, and every mistake is a lesson. Focus on the music, stay true to your passion and don’t rush.
