Interview With Adam Foster

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: I grew up in Albany NY.  My parents loved music, and passed that love on to me.  I had piano lessons also, which was a great musical foundation, when I picked up the guitar and started singing and writing songs.

Q: Can you describe Adam Foster’s musical style in three words?

A: Lyrical, diverse, fun.

Q: How do you stay connected with your fans, and what role do they play in shaping your musical journey?

A: Social media of course is a good way, but I definitely prefer meeting fans at shows in person.  Getting good direct feedback from people puts fuel in the tank to forge ahead.

Q: You have just released your new Neon Nashville Nights album. Is there a story behind it?

A: The new album originally was going to be a live album.  I wanted to capture my typical set at a Nashville club.  I was concerned about fidelity though (and some other minor issues) and opted for recording the band live in the studio.  Hopefully we succeeded in capturing the live energy of a show, but with higher fidelity of a studio.

Q: What is your favorite track from the album and why?

A: Tough question, but probably the single “Charming Lies”.  It is a political type of song, which I don’t write too many of, but seems to be relevant in today’s hyper-political atmosphere.  I also feel the video I put together for it to be one of my stronger videos.

Q: Can you walk us through the creative process of producing the album, “Neon Nashville Nights”?

A: I  write the songs (or select covers to do) and road test them a bit. Then I find the best players I can to help record them.  We rehearse before we go into the studio of course as well.  The artwork is also fun to work on,  This album I used photos that I had taken, but usually I work with visual artists to get something interesting.

Q: What has been the most memorable concert or performance for Adam Foster so far?

A: Probably a concert years ago in my hometown.  I had been  in a car accident  and hadn’t performed in awhile, so getting back felt so good.

Q: Reflecting on your body of work, each song holding its unique significance, could you share a particular track that stands out to you personally? What makes that specific tune special, and why does it hold a place of pride in your musical journey?

A: Possibly “Cousin Christopher” from my ‘Little Tornadoes” EP, “Stay With Me (Sarah’s Song) from my ‘Dirty City’ album, or “The Ballad of Steven Riley” from my “Adam and the Explorers’ album.  These are songs based on people that have passed away, so they feel a bit more special to me.

Q: Exploring the diverse creative processes within the music industry is always fascinating. Could you provide insight into Adam Foster’s unique approach to crafting music? From the initial spark of an idea to the finished song, how do you navigate the creative journey and bring its musical concepts to life?

A: I find the best songs are those that marry inspiration with craftsmanship.  You can get ok results with one or the other, but when you have both, then you usually get something of a higher quality.

Q: As we wrap up our conversation, looking ahead, what aspirations or dreams do you have for Adam Foster, and what message would you like to share with your fans as they continue to accompany you on this musical journey?

A: I always aspire to make better and better music and reach a wider and wider audience.  I would say to my fans that I will always do my best to make it interesting for you and thank you from the bottom of my heart for listening and supporting.
