Interview With Long Prairie

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: I grew up in the country and my folks were always listening to oldies radio and I think just having that music in the background sparked a fire within me.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Long Prairie”?

A: I’m just trying to get as many showcases as I can, whether it be in-person, on the radio etc. I’m very passionate about songwriting and I hope to spread inspiration for creating anything positive.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: I listen to a lot of bluegrass music and there are many artists in that genre that are just jaw-dropping musicians. I just keep looking for good songs and learn from the masters.

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the album, “By Sunrise.”?

A: The idea was spawned by a Townes Van Zandt song “I’ll Be Here in the Morning” but it’s also about giving yourself time to heal from heartbreak before moving into another relationship.

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: Alternative.

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “By Sunrise”?

A: Yes, It’s delicate finger picking and coming up with the hook was challenging.

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A: To me it’s a celebration of hard times, that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: Neil Young or James Hetfield.

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: Invest in a good teacher/mentor. It takes time to get good, be patient.

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: Practice my major scales harder. Take my instrument more seriously.
