Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A) Growing up in Brampton, around immigrants from all around the world, they all impacted my musical direction. Listening to hip hop through older cousins and friends, hearing Bollywood in the house, hearing soca/reggae from my neighbors while they washed their cars on weekends. It’s all blended together to create my own style.
Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Spitty”?
A) This is just the beginning. Welcome to the journey, you joined at the perfect time. We’re about to take over the world like Pinky & The Brain.
Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?
A) Right now I’m really inspired by Denzel Curry. He’s my age, has been popular for years, but continues to develop and reinvent his style. It’s refreshing to see.
Q: “Rodeo” is your first official Punjabi collaboration. How did the idea for blending cultures and languages in this single come about?
A) Brampton is Little Punjab. Surprised I didn’t get to making one of these sooner. You hear more Punjabi in my city than English. The city needed this one.
Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?
A) Meaningful
Q: What was it like working with Calgary-based producer Yuvy and artist Roze on this project? Did the process flow smoothly given the fusion of styles?
A) Smooth. I’m getting good at being versatile and adapting to styles. I like doing collabs for that reason, helps me expand out of my box.
Q: Your upcoming album is highly anticipated. Can you give us any insight into the themes or collaborations we can expect on the record?
A) It’s fully South Asian inspired, very collaborative. The themes surround my family’s immigrant experience, relationships, and many of the connections between my heritage and love for hip hop. We have viral Tik Tok sensation PRI on the opening song really transporting you to the Motherland. I’m excited for people to hear it.
Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)
A) Nate Dogg. King of hooks
Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?
A) Connect with the community around you. It’ll be 10x harder trying to go at it alone. And most things have already been tried and tested, you just gotta find the right people who are willing to pass on that experience and wisdom, or the people who are learning right there with you so you can grow together exponentially.
Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?
A) Focus on getting better every single day instead of thinking you’ll go viral every week. That consistent growth and improvement will compound and will get you to that virality eventually. Stay the course.
