The Owls – ‘Two Tone Summer’ and ‘Skandal’

Scottish group The Owls have made a bold entrance with their double single, Two Tone Summer and Skandal. This release is a refreshing nod to the ska and reggae sounds of the 2-Tone movement from the late ’70s and ’80s. Two Tone Summer stands out as a nostalgic yet relevant track, addressing the lingering social issues of racism and inequality that the original movement tried to tackle. The song has a catchy energy, blending the old-school vibe with modern relevance.

On the flip side, Skandal takes a different approach, using sharp lyrics and upbeat melodies to poke fun at the misinformation spread by politicians and media. It’s a playful but pointed track, offering commentary on the scandals that seem to constantly surface in the news. The Owls use this song to bring attention to these issues in a light-hearted way, but the message is clear.

Overall, this double single is a great mix of fun, thoughtfulness and timeless ska vibes. The Owls do a fantastic job balancing nostalgia with commentary, making these tracks worth a listen. We loved the blend of modern and classic influences, Two Tone Summer really took us back while still feeling fresh and Skandal had just the right amount of humor and punch. If you’re into ska, this release will definitely hit the right notes for you!
