Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: I am Samuel Huston, a recording artist out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Growing up in Milwaukee it wasn’t all bad but it wasn’t all good either. you are exposed to a lot at a young age, losing people to violence, jail, and even suicide. Luckily, my parents raised me to be different from my surroundings but you can’t help but to be affected by it.
Q: Can you describe the musical style of Samuel Huston in three words?
A: It’s honestly hard to explain with just three words but I would say; Cinematic, Versatile, and Deep.
Q: How do you stay connected with your fans, and what role do they play in shaping your musical journey?
A: I try to reply to every comment on my posts between instagram and tiktok. I also recently ran a pre-save campaign for one of my singles where I offered for people to receive a snippet of the song early. I just try to do little things to keep them involved.
Q: You have just released your new single, ‘DEAD’. Is there a story behind it?
A: Yes, all of my music comes from a real place; from real experiences. “DEAD” is about a relationship that didn’t end well & the toxicity within it. Placing blame on one another, lack of communication, and then.. closure.
Q: What is your favorite verse from the single, and why?
A: The intro verse is my favorite because it perfectly lays out what the song is about and all of the lyrics are really easily digestible and easy to understand.
Q: Can you walk us through the creative process of producing the single, “DEAD”?
A: This song is actually produced by another Milwaukee based artist named Zolton, I guess you can say I co-produced this one. We were just going for something different, making the song in the 3/4 time signature, blending pop & r&b cadences, with a hip hop second verse. I wrote all of the lyrics as the beat was being made because I literally felt like the beat was talking to me.
Q: What has been the most memorable concert or performance for Samuel Huston so far?
A: Last year I opened up for Mavi’s world tour “Laughing so hard it hurts” at the Cactus Club in Milwaukee. It was nothing short of amazing. The show was sold out and the energy was great.
Q: Reflecting on your body of work, each song holding its unique significance, could you share a particular track that stands out to you personally? What makes that specific tune special, and why does it hold a place of pride in your musical journey?
A: I actually recently went through an artist name change. I was formerly known as LOVEPeso, where the majority of my music was released. Under my new alias “Samuel Huston” I only have two songs out at the moment. I have a new single named “Blinded” releasing February 8th which I wrote and produced myself. This song is very important to me because this is the first song that I produced that I’m actually going to be releasing!
Q: Exploring the diverse creative processes within the music industry is always fascinating. Could you provide insight into Samuel Huston’s unique approach to crafting music? From the initial spark of an idea to the finished song, how do you navigate the creative journey and bring its musical concepts to life?
A: It could be a movie that I saw, a conversation that I had, something I saw on the street that sparks an emotion or memory that I had that I just flow off of. I make about three beats a day and not all of them do I make a song on but if one of them meshes with the emotions that I’m feeling I’ll use that beat as a journal essentially.
Q: As we wrap up our conversation, looking ahead, what aspirations or dreams do you have for Samuel Huston, and what message would you like to share with your fans as they continue to accompany you on this musical journey?
A: I just want to create at the highest level that I could possibly go to and then a little further than that. I think Mike Dean and I could make some beautiful music, he’s one of my dream features for sure. As for my fans I just want to thank them for supporting me early and I want to find more ways to give back to them and let them know how much I cherish them.
